Transportation "Way to Go"

The “Way to Go!” Senior Transportation Program becoming very Popular

Contributed by David Prigg
Now in its third full year of operation, the Neighbors Helping Neighbors “Way to Go!” (WTG) transportation program is being heralded as an exemplary senior transportation program by the State of Tennessee. It is approaching the point that our 50+ drivers will soon have trouble providing all the rides requested.  This program has proven to be extremely beneficial to those residents who can’t or don’t drive.  Getting them to essential places like doctor appointments, shopping, pharmacies, and on and on which helps our neighbors remain living independently in their own homes.
Could you afford to help a neighbor for 3 hours a couple times a month? Or more, if you so desire? If so, this Fairfield Glade Resident Services program would like to hear from you. Volunteer as a driver and receive the great satisfaction that comes with providing a safe, door through door means of transportation for someone who can’t, doesn’t, or shouldn’t be driving. We know you will take pride in helping your neighbor.
Call the FGRS Office at (931)456-7272 and tell us you would like to be a driver for “Way to Go!”. You can stop by the office at 4929 Peavine Rd., Ste 102 and pick up an application, fill it out, and the WTG Operations Manager will get in touch with you. You won’t regret it. Make someone happy that they can get out of their homes and get things done.

FGRS is pleased to offer the “Way to Go!” (WTG!)  Transportation Program.  This service is based on volunteers providing essential rides to Fairfield Glade residents – “Neighbors driving Neighbors”.  Residents who join the WTG! Program must be at least 60 years old, do not drive, or have a medical condition that prevents them from driving. This door to door transportation service is available for Fairfield Glade residents Monday thru Friday from 7am to 4pm.  “Essential” rides such as doctors’ appointments, shopping, beauty and barber shop, banks, attorneys, accountants, and pharmacies are only $6 per round trip.  The mission of the WTG! Program is to provide affordable, dependable, senior friendly volunteer transportation to Fairfield Glade residents who meet the program membership requirements.

At the core of the WTG!  Program is the volunteer drivers who utilize their personal vehicles to take the riders on their scheduled rides. The volunteer drivers are Fairfield Glade residents who drive their own vehicles and have been “vetted” and trained to safely transport senior residents.  If you are interested in learning more about the criteria for becoming a Driver or the commitment required of Drivers, please click here.
